Circle sawn pine is milled with a circular blade that leaves parallel saw marks across the face of each board - the same surface texture you'd find on planks pulled from an old barn wall. The hickory spindles are a different material entirely: natural hickory logs with the bark removed, shaped into vertical spindles for the headboard and footboard. Two distinct wood species in one piece - the textured pine frame holding the natural-contour hickory in place. Finishes are applied to the pine; the hickory spindles retain their own natural character. Natural Clear, Honey Amber, and American Chestnut are standard finishes; Weathered Gray and Antique Barnwood are premium.
